Suwon Toilet Museum
상세정보
I'm legit excited to visit this place, having always been fascinated with sewer systems. My father owned a sewer cleaning company when I was young and touring the Paris sewer tunnels one year totally blew my mind (a fascinating tourist activity).
-Sewers are one of the most amazing engineering feats of modern living and one of the most important public health structures of all time; toilets being a big part of that system. Furthermore, if you've been here for more than a week, you already know that Korea is on point when it comes to public toilets. But do you know WHY? It is an interesting story of the 1988 Olympics and a colorful and dedicated man who led the country to restroom readiness. Let's go explore this unique cultural aspect of Korea!
The Toilet Museum or 'Mr. Toilet House' is in Suwon. So, if you're in Seoul, it's a journey between 1 and 1.5 hours by public transport, depending on your starting point. I plan to arrive at the museum around 12pm and head back to Seoul at 5pm. This should leave plenty of time to explore and maybe go for an early dinner or coffee.
MEETING SPOT:
- If you are in Seoul, let's meet at Sadang Station Line 4 at 10:30am (exit 6). There's a little park at this exit and we can take a moment for introductions. We'll take a red intercity bus from Sadang (7800 or 7780) to the Dongwon High School Haeujae Entrance bus stop. The museum is about a 10 minute walk from this bus stop. Climate cards cannot be used on the red busses or outside Seoul, so make sure to load your Tmoney card. Round trip transport will be under 10,000 won and the museum entry is free.
- If you are coming from a location other than Seoul, let's meet at the Dongwon High School Haeujae Entrance bus stop near the museum in Suwon.
- If you are driving, there is a small number of parking spaces near the museum - please visit the website.
If folks are interested, we can get something to eat afterward or go for coffee/tea.
Please keep in mind that Sober means alcohol-free and this group is for people who are wanting a sober activity. Please wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen since we'll do a little walking today.
