Let's Talk About Story Craft & How to Improve Your Writing

Hey all ~ I'm JC, the new organizer for our writing group.

It's been a minute (and 7 months) since the last meetup and now seems a good time to start things up again.

For our 'Relaunch':
Let's talk about stories, and let's discuss writing craft. Let's refresh the creative wellspring, and help each other through the technical aspects of the composition process.

We'll greet and socialize, talk about what books and shows strike a chord, and of course, discuss our WIP's and commiserate on the process. At some point in the discussion, I'll also cover fundamental writing concepts that many of you already know, but there's a good chance you'll learn something new ~ just as I'll probably learn a few things from you guys.

Some info about me:
I'm a student of the writing craft who's read and applied concepts from over a hundred books on how to write fiction, a veteran of creative writing programs, and a semi-pro author (ie, published online and making some money but not enough to write full-time yet).

If 'journeyman writer' is a thing - and I think it should be - then I'm an artisan on a long quest to learn and develop the specific techniques of my trade, who's recently ascended my apprenticeship and begun to merit 'a day's wages' for my work. Maybe this idea resonates with you as well.

For our Meetup group:
My goal is to establish a thriving community of writers, and instill the appreciation of Storywriting as a craft, just as artists learn illustration techniques, and musicians learn how to compose music.

With that in mind, I'd like to see if people might be interested in workshops on how to write fiction. I've participated in plenty of critique/feedback workshops where people could use a good primer on how to write stories effectively, and the best way to improve is through good old fashioned instruction. We can discuss some ideas I have about this, so stay tuned.
