We will NOT be hiking the Chicopee Backcountry Trail so this is a moderate hike. We will hike the Bridge trail and cross the bridge and then go clockwise around the lake, crossing back over the bridge and then returning via the bridge trail to the parking lot. I usually don't say much about hiking poles, but the leaves are thick and you can't always see under them, so you might want to bring them along.

Please arrive around 9:45, or earlier, if you need to use a bathroom. We will start the hike at 10:00. Please use any GPS method you like to navigate to the Elachee Nature Science Center. It is located at 2125 Elachee Drive, Gainesville, GA. Once you make the right into the Center make another sharp right to go through the pay booth. It costs $5.00 to park. No other passes work here as it is a private facility. Drive around the long winding golf course, then over the bridge [with green/blue sides]. And straight back to the parking lot.

I have not set up any carpools but I think the optimum place is the I-985 parking lot at Exit 4. 9:15 sharp...to save $5.00 from everyone.

This is a beginner/intermediate hike. A couple of baby hills and a few steps but otherwise flat along the Chattahoochee River but I'd like to go at a moderate pace between 2.5 - 3.0 mph. It is not a run. 5.1 miles. You can find a copy of the trail map here:

We'll start with the little loop to see the old Jones Bridge and then walk along the water, loop back around the field and retrace our steps to get back to the car.

We'll meet in the parking lot at the very end of the entrance road. Restrooms are open/ Please remove all valuables visible in your vehicles because there have been acts of vandalism. There are 2 entrances to Jones Bridge coming from Holcomb Bridge. The first is the environmental center....don't turn here. Go to the next one. Go all the way to the end.

If you don't have an annual pass I suggest buying one on line. At Jones Bridge and all CRNRA parks there are no longer any envelopes and or normal credit card registration. You have to scan the bar code and enter your license plate, etc. etc. It doesn't work on all browsers so you may be doing a little downloading. Come early and be prepared or you won't be able start on time.
