Antonioni in Focus: Exploring Red Desert and The Passenger
Antonioni in Focus: Exploring Red Desert and The Passenger
Join us for a relaxed and thought-provoking meetup centered on the work of Michelangelo Antonioni, with a special focus on Red Desert and its enduring influence. We’ll explore how Antonioni uses landscape, color, and silence to express alienation and emotional disconnection, making Red Desert a landmark in modern cinema. From its striking visual design to its unconventional storytelling, we’ll unpack what makes his style so distinctive—and why it still resonates today. We’ll also bring The Passenger into the conversation, considering how its themes of identity, movement, and detachment echo or evolve Antonioni’s vision. Please note: this is a discussion-based meetup—we do not screen films during the event. Participants are encouraged to watch the films beforehand so we can dive straight into conversation, analysis, and shared perspectives. Whether you’re already a fan of Antonioni or just discovering his work, this is a space to think deeply, exchange ideas, and connect with others who appreciate cinema as an art form.

Father Mother Sister Brother - 4:10 p.m. Sunday 4/12 at the Nova -
Jim Jarmusch‘s new film with Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Charlotte Rampling and Tom Waits. “Father Mother Sister Brother is consistently beautiful. It is not easy to create visual variety and interest in scenes in which by design the most important thing that is happening is that nothing is apparently happening.” Variety. “There’s something comforting about the fact that Jarmusch is still doing his thing, exactly how he wants to, and that so many great actors are lining up to be part of it. He’s a singular voice in a landscape that’s always in danger of flattening.” The Associated Press. We will meet at the Nova Bar from 3:30 p.m. onwards, please book your tickets early, Stefan - 0437777522

We encourage our members to support anime artists and producers by purchasing their movies or any full series should they wish to watch the endings. **Some insight for newer members:** It's a natural process to feel a little anxious attending a large event you have never experienced before. During sign ins our hosting team will naturally be busy however our meet & greet volunteers will do their best to say 'Hello' to everyone and perhaps connect you to others. If for some reason this does not happen (because it's really busy), don't fret! Our ice breaker games are designed to help everyone bond over a shared experience. You should expect adults having fun and letting lose whilst being challenged to push some comfort zones which we invite you to do as well! The games are suppose to be silly to help people come out of comfort zones and get to know someone new. We will then take a break to watch anime and we really do encourage you to stay for games after dinner which is when our team gets a breather and a good chance to get to know our newer members better in a quieter setting! We have witnessed many wonderful long term friendships formed at MAC amongst our members - We do hope you join us! **THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS** A big thank you to everyone who RSVPs - This money helps with the club's upkeep and hiring of the venue! ...and speaking of breakthrough roles: who can forget the first time we saw Tom Cruise singing Bob Seeger in his underwear? Often considered an updated 1983 version of The Graduate, the movie sparkles with memorable lines and original music. I only regret that I was never told that "Princeton could use someone like Bob..." See the movie first and join us for some "Cruisin'"

Bring your Raspberry Pi, Arduino, microcontroller, or any other electronic project and join fellow electronics makers for a night of creativity and collaboration! This session is open forum to share your current projects—whether complete or in progress, it’s all interesting! Whether you’re deep into embedded systems, exploring new ideas, or just getting started, you’ll find a welcoming space to collaborate, share, and get inspired. **New to electronics or curious about tinkering?** You’re absolutely welcome. If you’re a beginner and want to experiment, I’ll have a couple of starter kits available so you can try things out—whether that’s blinking your first LED, putting something on a display, or experimenting with simple sensors. No pressure and no experience required—just an interest in learning and building. While we continue to pursue a more permanent venue for this Meetup, we’ll be using public library facilities based on availability. This session will be at the Worthington Park Library in the Olentangy Meeting Room.
Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: THE CHRISTOPHERS vs NORMAL at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of two great new films! Option 1 (and the one I'll be seeing) is the top-reviewed comedy-drama, THE CHRISTOPHERS! The film is set in the art world and follows the estranged children of a former artist who hire a forger. It is directed by Steven Soderberg, stars Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel and has been earning rave reviews on the indie circuit. Option 2 is the latest action-thriller starring Bob Odenkirk, NORMAL! The film follows a temporary small-town sheriff who uncovers dark mysteries after a local bank robbery. Here are descriptions, trailers and our plan for this event: THE CHRISTOPHERS: The children of a once famous artist hire a forger to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they'll have a better inheritance when he dies. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning and James Corden. BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film is earning an excellent 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes where critics call it a “dynamic, emotional and surprising journey” and a “compelling chamber piece that works like intellectual comfort food.” Others call the film, an “incredibly funny, comedy drama with plot reversals that make it feel like it’s on the verge of a thriller!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H79-EqzmdwY&t=20s NORMAL: This action-crime-thriller follows a man who comes to the sleepy town of Normal, Minnesota to serve as the temporary sheriff. But a bank robbery leads him to a criminal underground reaches throughout the entire town. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Bob Odenkirk, Henry Winkler and Lena Headey. The film comes from the same team that brought us Nobody and the John Wick series, so expect an over-the-top, action-filled thrill ride! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmm-lM33Qw0&t=19s PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime. Once showtimes are announced, advance ticket purchase is advised (GFC website preferred)! Please list your movie of choice and seat number in the Comments section of this event. Showtimes and complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. PARKING: Close, convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (located between 9th and 11th, just off High St). Bring your ticket with you and have it validated at the theater and for $2, you’re covered for the night! Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
