Cedar Park / Leander / Liberty Hill "Coffee Hour" by Networking Local™
Cedar Park / Leander / Liberty Hill "Coffee Hour" by **Networking Local™** is mingle-style networking event over coffee. We meet at **SCOTTSDALE Red Horn Brewery & Roastery** in Leander from 8:30-9:30am on Wednesday mornings.
We LOVE to support LOCAL businesses like this with great coffee, atmosphere and tacos (they have Mexican-style food kitchen). Swing on by, meet your business neighbors and, most importantly, Stay Local!
Be sure to LIKE our FB page via networkinglocal.org for pictures **(SOCIAL PROOF)** updates and future events.
Please RSVP so you accurately reserve space and so our host location, Red Horn Brewery & Roastery, can properly accommodate us.
STAY LOCAL my friend!
This group has previously been the Cedar Park / Leander Community Business Group for years as we have been connecting local business people who live and/or work in the area. Hope to see you soon.
Kayak polo Games - not for beginners
Beginners' nights got moved to Thursday

: These nights are not intended for FIRST TIMERS and players that cannot roll yet. Please come to the Monday night beginner practice first (before coming out to the other sessions). We meet under the Mopac bridge.
Noontime Council of Solace (Open to Members and Seekers)
The Council of Solace is a special meditation where we gather to direct our spiritual energy to help bring about healing and peace to the world. Many people do this as part of a daily practice in service of others and find it to be a personally enriching experience that provides them with a sense of renewal. Please join us as we gather for a noontime meditation each weekday.
6.6-mile Brushy Creek Regional Trail Evening Hike @ Cedar Park [🔦 Recommended!]
Join us for our **recurring** scenic **6.6-mile (10.6-km)** evening at the Brushy Creek Regional Trail in Cedar Park!
We’ll take a relaxed pace through one of the city’s most beautiful trails. The hike should take about **2 hours**.
**ℹ️ Additional info**
The purpose of this specific event is to have a recurring way for us to meet relatively easily. I want to make sure that recurring events are a "low effort" commitment, ie you don't have to drive 2 hours to get there. In the future once we have more organizers I plan to have more recurring events scheduled so we can cover a larger area.
Also, you may have noticed that **this event has an RSVP limit**. This is done for multiple reasons. Not only to ensure that a large group is not disruptive to the rest of the Austin community on the trail, but also to allow us to prioritize the "meetup" experience for every attendee, as having +60 people may be overwhelming, and ultimately the goal of this group is to build a community, not just a collection of individuals that like a specific trail.
**📍 Where to Meet**
2310 Brushy Creek Rd, Cedar Park, TX 78613
Google Maps **exact meeting spot link**:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/79KfLDsggDVKNfhy8
Route on **AllTrails**:
[Will be added in the future]
**🅿️ Parking**
Parking is available directly at the parking lot close to where we'll meet. There will be enough space for everyone.
**ℹ️ Recommendations**
* Bring good shoes (Although the terrain isn't challenging and relatively flat)
* Pack some water (More than you need, just in case)
* Bring a friend! (That's my attempt at a shameless self-promo for the group. Although even if you don't, I am confident that you'll get along great with the people you'll meet at the event!)
* A flashlight! Your phone is better than nothing, but a dedicated flashlight would only be of benefit of you as the sun sets!
**👍 Good to know**
* 🐶 Dog-friendly
* 👨👩👧 Family-friendly
* ♿ Wheelchair accessible
**Event Etiquette (Important!)**
* If you RSVP'd, but are unable to make it, please update your attendance as soon as possible. The attendance limit prevents new people from joining if we're at capacity otherwise. If we notice a pattern of you RSVPing to events and not showing up, you will be kicked from this group.
* Please show up on time. We will start right at the indicated event time. This is to respect everyones time. If you're a few minutes late, it should not be an issue as the "intro" to the event may take 15 minutes or so, but we will not delay the start until you get there.
* Other than that, I know all of you will help me make this group great for everyone. So thanks in advance for that!
**Event itinerary**
Below is the general outline of how the events are going to function
* Updates since last event
* Official introductions of everyone
* Icebreaker question
* The event itself
* After event:
* (As needed) Updates for next event(s)
* Exchange goodbyes
**🙂 I want your feedback!**
I am working on making this description as informative as possible, if anything is missing, you have any recommendations or there are errors/mistakes, please reach out to me, thanks!
The New Yorker Weekly Short Story Club (PDFs available on Discord)
Calling all literary fiction lovers of the greater Austin Area for our **159th event**!
We are reading the story **"The Golden Boy"** by **Daniyal Mueenuddin.** Link is provided in the comments section below and will be visible once you sign up for the event.
[Our Discord Server:](https://discord.gg/9jjufDeZ5Q) join our community to chat and hang in between meetups! You will also find our story under discussion posted there each week.
[KUT's Sean Saldana, a member of our meetup, recently did a story about us: read here!](https://www.kut.org/life-arts/2025-10-02/new-yorker-reading-club-austin-tx-central-market)
Interested in being a part of meaningful conversations on life, love, and contemporary short fiction? Are you a bookish type that loves to keep up with The New Yorker's short story of the week? Miss reading and having friends who read, but don't have the time to linger over a 300-page novel?
Welcome: We have been searching for y'all and would be pleased to co-create a fun lil literary community together! Come join our group weekly for a lively, thoughtful in-person discussion of the latest and greatest work of short fiction from The New Yorker.
Whether you're a longtime lover of literature or just curious to see what all the fuss is about when it comes to Murakami and pals, we’d love to have you either way; reading, like most everything else in life, is just more fun with friends!
**Please note that this is an inclusive community space, welcoming of LGBTQIA+, queer, transgender, and nonbinary people.** Event attendees will be asked to share their preferred pronouns and to respect the preferred pronouns shared by other discussion participants.
**People of color seeking a diverse community and reading selection are also especially encouraged to attend.** Not that they're perfect (or that we are, for that matter), but part of the reason why we read The New Yorker's short stories is that the editorial staff has done a good job in recent years of publishing writers of color and promoting, more generally, a wide-ranging selection of American & international literary voices. Our reading group is also fairly diverse in terms of ethnic and cultural background.
Pinthouse Pizza chess night Round Rock
Chess, beer and pizza! Can it get any better? Come join us for a fun filled night of casual, social chess. We will provide the boards just bring yourself.

Phenomenology of Spirit
## Hegel Reading Group: *Phenomenology of Spirit*
**Hosted by Elena**
📍 Epoch Coffee, 221 W North Loop Blvd, Austin, TX
🗓 **Saturday, January 3**
🕐 **1:00–3:00 PM**
Hegel’s *Phenomenology of Spirit* has a legendary reputation: daunting, dense, and—according to critics like Schopenhauer and Russell—borderline incomprehensible. And yet, it remains one of the most influential philosophical works of the modern era, shaping everything from Marxist theory to contemporary debates in logic, science, and political thought.
This reading group exists for people who feel the pull of Hegel despite the dread.
We approach the *Phenomenology* through **slow reading and collective interpretation**, prioritizing depth over speed. The goal is not to “conquer” Hegel, but to think *with* him—carefully, critically, and in conversation with others.
### What we explore
* Self-consciousness, freedom, and recognition
* Individuality, action, and ethical life
* Contradiction and dialectical thinking
* The relationship between Hegel’s system and empirical science
* Whether Hegelian contradiction challenges or complements formal logic
* Why this text still matters in our current historical moment
### Format
* Open, roundtable discussion
* No lectures, no performance philosophy
* Questions and disagreement are welcome
* You can speak a lot, or mostly listen—both are valid
**We’ll be asking questions like:**
* Where do we use good language to cover missing action?
* How does our “inner law” quietly become pressure on others?
* What survives when our ideals meet the real world?
### **Reading for this meeting**
We are continuing our progression through the *Phenomenology*.
**Current focus:** **§394 — *Individuality, Which, to Itself, is Real in and for Itself***
(From the section on Reason)
If you’re new, prior readings are helpful but **not required**. This is a continuing group, but newcomers are always welcome.
### Previous sections covered
* Preface: On Scientific Cognition
* Introduction
* Sense-Certainty
* Perception: Or the Thing and Deception
* Force and the Understanding
* The Truth of Self-Certainty
* Lordship and Bondage
* Reason and its development toward individuality

*(If you’re using the Miller translation, be cautious with the paragraph summaries at the end—read them skeptically.)*
### Schedule
We meet **every two weeks on Saturdays**.
This session begins at **1:00 PM** to allow more time for discussion.
Friendship Brunch for Progressive-ish Non religious
This is the first event of 2026! Please join us.
8-10 people attend but you won't see the RSVPs here for current members, just newbies.
Are you looking for a friendship group where you fit in? Not quite sure where to go to make friends since you don't go to church? Maybe you prefer smaller settings rather than large organizations?
We are a group of secular humanists (read religion isn't necessary to be a good, moral person). We are looking to add a few more people to join us.
We meet weekly, mostly in a home in Cedar Park for potluck but sometimes at restaurants. New people are welcome any week. It is very casual and we are welcoming. If you are interested, reach out by texting me at301-213-9533. We need to see if we are a good fit for each other before giving you the address.

Meet people, see beautiful and historic Austin scenery, get some steps in, and have fun!
Join Robert, Michele, and a group of friendly people for a casual walk up and down South Congress Avenue (SoCo).
**South Congress** (abbreviated SoCo) is a neighborhood located on South Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas, United States. It is also a nationally known shopping and cultural district known for its many eclectic small retailers, restaurants, music and art venues and, more recently, food trucks.
South Congress begins at the Colorado River and Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge and runs due south towards Ben White Boulevard/TX-71. The area is bordered by two historic South Austin neighborhoods: Travis Heights to the east and Bouldin Creek to the west.
Since its humble beginnings in the 1850s, South Congress Avenue has been transformed from a rural country road to the capital city gateway and, finally, to the shopping district that it is today. Some Austinites attribute its enduring popularity to the unobstructed view of the Texas State Capitol.

Solopreneurs Drinking Coffee — First Event
First attempt at this. If it's good, we'll do it again. If it sucks, we tried.
(Event photo is from a recent trip to Flagstaff. Stock photos of fake people drinking coffee are the worst.)
**Why I'm doing this:**
You're the average of the people you spend the most time with. Running a business solo means I've been spending most of my time with myself. And AI tools, which are great for thinking through business problems, but terrible for actual human connection.
I want to raise that average. Looking for people who want real conversations. Not networking, not pitches, just the kind of talk that makes you think differently about what you're building and why.
If we all end up making a few friends along the way, even better.
**What to expect:**
Coffee. Conversation. No pitches, no elevator speeches, no going around the table introducing ourselves like it's a corporate icebreaker.
Just show up and talk like a normal human.
**Ground rules:**
* No pitching your business
* No recruiting
* No MLM talk
* No hustle porn
**RSVP cap:** 6 people max so it doesn't turn into a crowd.
**Location:** Transcend Coffee & Roastery in Grove City
**Time:** Friday, January 16th at 11 AM.
See you there!

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Jan 3 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Gaye Fifer**
**Band: Hot Coffee Breakdown**
**Big Scioty Contra Dance**
**temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/)
Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
