Maple Mountain: Blue & Yellow loop (Chilco Rd TH)
상세정보
Early posting to see if there's enough interest to warrant hosting it - as the same hike is posted for Sunday (NOTE: this one starts @ different TH and @ a less brisk pace).
This hike does not summit Maple Mountain and starts from the end of Chilco Rd.
Approx 10.5km/395m elevation gain @ "just slightly above" moderate pace.
You s/b @ minimum a strong “B/moderate” level hiker or higher to enjoy this hike. Not suitable for anyone with balance/cardio/knee deficiencies.
Snack break/photo op @ Grave Point (scenic viewpoint).
Pet-free/NO DOGS please. No Pit Toilet.
Carpooling: pre-arrange/comment below if you can drive/need a ride. Passengers pitch in for gas $$$. Suggestion for Nanaimo folks...carpool from south-end Country Grocer parking lot. Park/meet in slots closest to highway.
REMINDER: be prepared to show some of the Ten Essentials/First Aid supplies that you carry in your pack.
Start on the Blue trail (forested, pass by a seasonal waterfall) and merge onto the Yellow trail (along shoreline) with great views over Sansum Narrows to Salt Spring Island.
Some of trail's surface is fractured/slippery rock and the elevation will be continually up and down. Hikers who are not accustomed to varied surfaces and elevation will find that the rating is on the high end of moderate.
Expect puddles, wet & slippery conditions with varied and unstable terrain (stones, roots & navigate over some blowdown). Hiking boots/shoes with good tread required. Poles may be beneficial.
