Discover the courage and sacrifice of those behind Korea's independence movement at one of Seoul's most powerful historical sites. Korean university student guides will lead you through a chapter of history that led to Korea’s independence.
✨ Course Introduction
From 1910 to 1945, Korea endured 35 years of Japanese colonial rule, with Seodaemun Prison at the dark center of it all. This tour traces the history of Korea's fight for independence: from the Independence Gate built with citizens' donations, to the stories of countless unnamed heroes who were imprisoned and tortured here but never stopped crying out for freedom. Inside the prison's preserved buildings, exhibition halls, and outdoor grounds, you'll come face to face with the weight of that history and the spirit of a people who refused to be broken.
