Details
Hey type ninjas!
We've got a new meetup coming up this may 15th, with two new and interesting subjects: Joost Heijkoop will compare Scala with Kotlin. Handré Stolp uses Haskell in his day job and will try to convince you to use it too.
AGENDA:
17:45: Doors open
18:00: Food arrives
18:40: Scala vs Kotlin – Joost Heijkoop
19:35: Break
19:40: Why not Haskell? – Handré Stolp
20:35: Borrel and socializing
Scala vs Kotlin
With more than 10 years of Scala experience and with many other languages, recently jumped onto Kotlin, because it look very promising as a Java competitor. Of course there is no one size fits all solution. This will show how the two languages compare and explain why and when, you should pick one over the other. Or maybe should consider some else all together.
Joost Heijkoop is a passionate software craftsman and organiser from Amsterdam (Scala & Kotlin.amsterdam), always looking to learn, share, teach and meet new people
Why not Haskell?
For the next language you decide to learn, why not Haskell? For the next language to use for your project, why not Haskell? The next time someone tells you why not to use Haskell have an answer for why you should. This talk will be part mini introduction and part sales pitch for a great language and technology.
Handré Stolp is a software engineer originally from South Africa, He spent the first 10 years of his career doing realtime simulation / bad game engine programming using mostly C++ and 4 years ago made the switch to full stack web dev using amazing purely functional statically typed goodies like Haskell and Elm.
SPONSORS:
