The .NET ecosystem demystified

Details

We have yet another awesome evening planned that is filled with interesting topics from great speakers. If you want to understand the different components in the .NET ecosystem and are curious about moving to the new .NET world, this event is for you.

Preliminary program:

18:30 - 19:00 Doors opening - welcoming & dinner*

19:00 - 19:45 A Lap Around the .NET Ecosystem (Barry Luijbregts)
.NET is evolving - and that’s a good thing! Because of this evolution, the .NET Ecosystem has become large and sometimes confusing. There are lots of things out there, like .NET Core, but should you use it for every project? Is it going to replace the .NET (full) Framework? Wasn’t Xamarin supposed to make everything cross-platform? And what is .NET Standard? Is that part of .NET Core? Do you need to install it? And what about Portable Class Libraries? This session will answer all of these questions and more. Afterwards, you will be able to pick the right runtime and tools for your project AND explain the .NET ecosystem to your confused colleagues.

19:45 - 20:00 Break

20:00 - 20:45 Legacy to Awesome: Migrating to .NET Core (Fanie Reynders)
We have all experienced legacy code, some of us still do, and that’s not fake news. There comes a time when we need to draw a line in the rubble and start making the code great again. In this session, we will get our hands dirty with moving an existing system to .NET Core and learn about the fundamentals of getting it right the first time. No need to throw away old code, let’s move to a better framework and instantly get the speed and scalability we need to move forward.

20:45 Networking
