The Hole in the Wall hike starts from the De Villiers Dam wall. We access the route by starting at Constantia Neck and hiking to the tap in front of the Overseers House on top of the mountain. Then the hike follows an interesting route first climbing up the Back Table and then weaving between rocks, boulders ,cliffs and indigenous forest. It ends with a short cave to crawl through. We eventually get back on the jeep track and walk to the Woodhead reservoir where we stop for lunch.
After lunch we climb Reserve Peak via a very interesting
route. Then climb down the Nursery Ravine side and take the path back to the Overseer’s House.
The hike is about 12 kilometers and has a height gain of about 700 meters. There is some easy scrambling but no exposure. Although we are taking the easiest way possible up the mountain you will still need to be hike fit. . Also the hike is quite long and I have allocated 6 hours altogether to complete it. If you have to leave early it is possible to leave after we complete the Hole in the Wall. It will be quite safe to walk down the jeep track all the way back to Constantia Neck.
Bring water in a bottle. You can refill at the tap in front of the Overseers House. Also bring ,lunch, snacks and dress for the weather of the day. At this time of the year it is quite cool on top and there may be a fresh breeze. The cost to join the hike is R40.00 which you can pay cash on the day. If you prefer to pay by EFT I have put my bank details under my name below. If you have questions you can raise them in the comments section below the description or send a whatsap to
me at 082 4923864.
I look forward to seeing you on this interesting hike.
