Building the Future of Picnic Tech with GraalVM & Automation

It’s time for another exciting webinar by Picnic Technologies! On Thursday 12 November Phil Leonard and Gijs van der Voort will talk about building a Rule Engine with GraalVM, and setting up the infrastructure for our automated warehouse. These talks will show how we use new technology to build the future of Picnic! Here’s our program: πŸ“± 6:30pm -6:45pm - Welcome by Daniel Gebler, CTO of Picnic Technologies πŸ”ˆ6:45pm -7:15pm - Talk #1: Phil Leonard β€˜Building a Rule Engine with GraalVM’ Rule Engines are systems designed to decouple business logic from feature development, typically with the offering of low-code DSLs or even visual no-code solutions. Picnic is venturing to make their own rule engine platform in order to enable technically minded business analysts to define business ruling and customer interactions of their own with a greater degree of flexibility. Join us in discovering how Picnic is leveraging GraalVM to create a near real-time, event driven, polyglot rule engine, to reduce the TTM (time to market and time to modification) for business logic and real-time customer interactions. πŸ”ˆ7:15pm -7:45pm - Talk #2: Gijs van der Voort β€˜β€™From cloud to on-premise: powering Picnic's automated warehouse Software controlling an automated warehouse have very different requirements compared to the typical web-services that have been built to support Picnic's supply chain. Not only is downtime very costly if such a warehouse comes to a halt, interactions with the machines on the floor require very low and very predictable latency. The way to support these requirements was to deploy an on-site datacenter: the first for Picnic, a cloud-only organization. We will walk trough our journey to our first datacenter and how we strived for a solution that allowed us to use most of our existing skillsets. πŸ™‹β€β™€β€7:45pm -8pm - Discussion and wrap up by Daniel Gebler Join us to learn more about scaling up product development and how we use development tools and automation at Picnic! Hope to see on 12 November!
