Intro Harm Bodewes:
Harm Bodewes is responsible for the global department Data & Analytics within Vanderlande Industries, reporting to the CFO. Harm has a background in database technology, data management and data modelling. He started his career at Oracle in 1991. In 1995 he started with 8 colleagues the IT company Transfer Solutions. Since 2015 Harm has been working for Vanderlande Industries, currently in the role of Executive Director Data & Analytics. Harm is writing a series of blog articles on all kinds of data related topics. You can find these blog articles on The Data Pyramid.

Data as a business enabler in airports industry Vanderlande is the global market leader for logistic process automation at airports. The company is also a leading supplier of warehouse and parcel solutions.

The digital business era has started within Vanderlande quite some years ago, we realize that data is an important asset of our customers. First of all we collect and process internal data of all different sources in our Enterprise Data Warehouse. This is data about our customers, suppliers, equipment and our installed base. Secondly we collect streaming data of our equipment (robots, sorters, conveyors, AGV’s) on airports and logistic centers across the world. This type of data is stored in our Enterprise Data Lake.

This lecture focuses on three topics:

  • Digital transformation, which opportunities do we see for our customers
  • Case 1: increase capacity by using Data Science/Condition Based Maintenance
  • Case 2: improve passenger experience, remote baggage solutions

Intro Tim Hehenkamp:
Tim Hehenkamp is the Executive Director IT & Data Analytics at Jumbo Supermarkten. He has been working at one of the largest supermarket in the Netherlands for the past 7 years.

Tim will elaborate on why THE customer does not exist. For retailers ‘the customer’ in fact represents millions of individuals who increasingly expect to be treated as such. Given the limitations of the human mind for making sense of such complexity, mastering data to understand customers and translate observations into a differentiated offering is no longer about innovation, it’s about survival.
