Wat we doen

Printmaking as a manual technique linked to the world of d.i.y. and traditional art it is opposed to the logic of massive and homologating industrial production. The laboratory supports the production of communication and self-financing material for projects and collectives inside and outside ot301, as well as non-profit, critical and collective projects.
Irina Baldini is a print-maker working with traditional techniques who has expanded her knowledge through alternative printing techniques through the years. She teaches Cyanotype, etching, dry-point and monotype regularly, and gives introduction courses in bookbinding and paper.

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple and low-cost process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as blueprints. The process uses two chemicals: ammonium iron(III) citrate and potassium ferricyanide.

Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. Printmaking normally covers the process of creating prints that have an element of originality.

Drypoint is a printmaking technique of the intaglio family, in which an image is incised into a plate (or "matrix") with a hard-pointed "needle" of sharp metal or diamond point. Traditionally the plate was copper, but now acetatezinc, orplexiglas are also commonly used. Like etching, drypoint is easier for an artist trained in drawing to master than engraving, as the technique of using the needle is closer to using a pencil than the engraver's burin.
In traditional Lithographythe printing is from a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a ball grained surface. It was invented in 1796 by German author and actor Alois Senefelder as a cheap method of publishing theatrical works.

Kitchen Litho uses simpler materials to print text or artwork onto paper or other suitable material.

Monotype is a form of printmaking that has lines or images that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking, where there are multiple originals. There are many techniques of monoprinting. Examples of standard printmaking techniques which can be used to make monoprints include lithography, woodcut, linocut..

In these sessions we will learn how to produce a hand made matrix, to prepare the sensitive solution and print beautiful blue-prints in cyanotype or ink based prints with the use of a printing press.
The laboratories are suitable for beginners and intermediate students willing to experiment with the technique under supervision of a tutor.

Join us this year for Bookbinding lessons and learn the craft of paper. Upcoming bookbinding workshops include introductions to Pamphlets, Stab Bindings & Concertina, Single Section Case Binding among many more methods.

Sign up and learn while meeting people sharing your interest.

Looking forward to meeting you all!
