Workshop RxJS at ING

Details

Dear members of the Amsterdam Web Component Meetup,

After restarting the meetup with last event, we’d like to change it up. This time, we found a party that can guide us through the world of RxJs: Craftsmen. And, as we’d like to offer something interesting and related; we decided to organise a workshop on the topic of reactive programming and web components. In this workshop they will explain the fundamentals of Reactive Programming and offer exercises to experience the theory using ReactiveX (One of the most popular RP libraries). The workshop will be presented in English. Examples and exercises will be available for TypeScript/JavaScript.

Reactive programming and RxJs in specific, allows us to take a functional approach to handling events in building front ends for our streaming APIs. Want to know how to put them to work? I’d like to invite you all for our next meetup on the 10th of July.

A hot topic now, but I'd like to think it has been ages since we started appreciating streams. Heroclitus famously said: "No man ever steps in the same river twice". Change is ever present: our universe, our JS libraries, our user interfaces, but also our Meetups.

Agenda:
17:00: Opening doors & food
18:00: Introduction
18:10: Workshop by Daan & Remco
19:15: Small break
19:30: Workshops / Hands-on Session
20:30: Drinks
21:30: End

Requirements:
• Bring your own laptop and make sure that:
• You have a text editor or IDE installed
• You have installed Node.js (version 4 or higher is recommended)
• Make sure the battery of your laptop is fully charged

Please be aware that the workshop will make heavy use of lambda functions and attendees are assumed to be familiar with them. In case you are not, here are two great sources to familiarize with them:

RSVP and Show up:
Although we have set limits to attendance before, usually our meetups are accessible for many. We almost never have to say no to members on the 'wish list'. Now, in this workshop event, we will limit to a smaller group. This allows moderators to guide everyone in the group. The group will be small enough for people to work together and find each other. But there is a downside to limits. You might think something along the lines: “I need to get my RSVP now!” I get that feeling of missing out if you don't, but please be aware if you don't show, you will be disappointing other members! We hope you will be able to join and also follow through if you decided to reserve a spot.

See you then,

Frank
on behalf of the AWCM
