The Comeback Edition 💥

Details

The largest and longest-running JavaScript meetup in town is back with a bang!

Hello there JavaScripters,

AmsterdamJS is back! And this time with an amazing new team of organizers with big ambitions that will pick up where Sergi left off. The legacy of kick-ass events will continue, that’s for sure. JavaScript has a bright shining future and the Amsterdam tech scene is thriving. Although there are various vibrant user meetups and conferences on related topics, the city needs a strong and all-embracing JavaScript community and AmsterdamJS is it, since 2010 (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!forum/amsterdam-js).

Our first new event – The Comeback Edition – will be kindly hosted by Booking.com (http://www.booking.com/). They are providing us with their Auditorium on the fifth floor of their Rembrandtplein headquarters. High five to Booking! ✋

Also great thanks to BlueFront (http://bluefront.nl) for sponsoring this event. With their help we’ll make sure that all talks will be properly recorded and shared with the rest of the community.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday September 8th!

RSVP obligatory!

Please make sure to RSVP on this Meetup page if you are attending (and unRSVP in case your plans change), so Booking can give you security clearance.

As a web developer since the early 2000s, Rik has lived through the ups and downs of browsers all the way from IE3 to Chrome 52. From doing interactive web projects for big brands to working on Cloud9 IDE, the limitations of HTML have always been there. After leaving Cloud9 four years ago to explore the new possibilities that WebGL offers for UI, a continuous stream of WebGL-related projects have appeared, including a JavaScript trace debugger, a compile-to-JavaScript language and a live coding prototyping framework. Makepad (https://github.com/makepad/makepad.github.io) is the latest from-scratch iteration of this WebGL direction, and it is exciting to share the progress and lessons learned.

Marten works for DockYard (https://dockyard.com/), one of the most prominent EmberJS consultancies, and does a lot of OSS work and presenting in the Ember community.

AmsterdamJS Pitch Session

Beyond great speakers, we want to include a more informal opportunity for people to briefly share their pet projects, discuss their ideas or announce their events. Which is why we are introducing the AmsterdamJS Pitch Session! 🏌

Each participant will get the stage for three minutes to demo their drone racing project, ask for help on their IoT idea, invite people to their hackathon or surprise us with even funkier stuff. Share your pitch with us to grab a slot (https://goo.gl/forms/LIqhYt82NYSRHE9t2), and don’t be shy because in the Pitch Session more crazy means more fun!

Getting there

Booking.com headquarters are located near the central Rembrandtplein, which can easily be reached by tram 4 or 9 from Amsterdam CS (when exiting the train station turn left). If you are coming by car you can park around the corner at The Bank Parking (http://www.parkking.nl/parkeergarage/amsterdam/the-bank/).
