Great Exhibitions #16 – Thuis in de 17de Eeuw at the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam)
Details
🗓 Saturday 13 December 2025
📍 Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam
🕒 Meeting at 15:00 in the main hall
For the 16th edition of our Great Exhibitions series, we’ll explore the daily life of the Dutch Golden Age with the exhibition "Thuis in de 17de Eeuw" at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
This beautifully curated exhibition brings together artworks, objects, utensils, and rare finds from household waste (!) to give an immersive picture of everyday domestic life in the 1600s — from grand canal houses to humble homes.
We’ll encounter not only idealised dollhouses and Rembrandt interiors, but also the gritty realities of cooking, sleeping, cleaning, parenting, and surviving in a rapidly changing society. There's also a parallel view from contemporary artists responding to themes of home, displacement, and identity.
🛑 Important: As this is one of the busiest museums in the Netherlands, it is strongly advised to book your time slot ticket in advance via the Rijksmuseum website.
🍻 After the exhibition, we’ll walk to Mikkeller at Morebeer, a unique beer spot in Amsterdam born from the collaboration between Danish brewing icon Mikkeller and local brewery Morebeer (now brewing together with Poesiat & Kater in Amsterdam Oost). Expect world-class beers from one of the most influential breweries in Europe, served in a cosy and lively spot.
Join us for art, conversation, and some of the best beer in town!
