Real Estate #2: Fraeylemaborg — A Fairytale Estate in the North of the country
Details
Saturday, February 7th – Slochteren
Meeting time: 13:00
Meeting point: Bus stop Fraeylemaborg, Slochteren
Hidden in the northern province of Groningen lies one of the most beautifully preserved noble estates in the Netherlands: De Fraeylemaborg.
Surrounded by a moat, long tree-lined avenues and a romantic landscape park, this historic residence feels almost like something out of a fairytale — a place where architecture, nature and centuries of aristocratic life come together in quiet harmony.
For the second edition of Real Estate, our curated series dedicated to villas and remarkable estates across the Netherlands, we will explore both the park and the historical context of this elegant country house, discovering how noble families shaped the landscape, the architecture and the social life of this region.
This is not a rushed visit, but a slow walk through space, history and atmosphere — an invitation to experience a place that still carries the grandeur of Groningen’s past.
### Practical information
- Walk length: approx. 3.5 km
- Comfortable shoes are recommended
### After the walk
We will end our visit at De Boerderij, the restaurant/café located within the estate. Here we’ll have the chance to enjoy a drink, relax together, and admire the beautiful interiors of the villa — the perfect setting to exchange impressions and close the afternoon.
A quiet gem.
A landscape shaped by history.
A villa that still tells its story.
