Living on the IoT Edge

Building an IoT device is easy. Doing it at cloud scale is hard. How will do you ensure your backend doesn't get swamped with requests? How do you manage software updates at scale? Will it all still be secure? Luckily Azure IoT Edge can help us manage all these challenges.

In this talk I’ll guide you through the complete IoT device lifecycle, from manufacture to decomission, using Azure IoT Edge for the heavy lifting. We’ll be exploring topics ranging from manufacturing to security, monitoring and decommissioning of devices using an actual IoT device to show all the concepts.

After this talk you'll have an overview of all the steps involved in productizing an IoT device. Furthermore you'll have an overview of the options available to you when using the Azure IoT Edge suite to accomplish these steps.

About Rob van Geloven:
I am a .NET expert at XPRTZ.net, where I work as a consultant on complex tailored .NET solutions. With fifteen years of experience in software development I've been many things, from hardcore Ops to CTO and everything in between. Nowadays I mostly work as a passionate .NET focused software architect. My main goal is to help people and business get better and be better: from the way people work, how people test and code to how software gets delivered. Beside my passion for software development I like working on DIY electronics and IoT projects. When I am not coding I am having fun with my family, or playing some Magic the Gathering with my friends.

IoT Reference Architecture on Azure

IoT world is huge. Devices are constantly ‘talking’ and streaming a lot of data. But how to understand it and get insight on this data to act accordingly? How to ingest it? How to analyze it? How to deliver it? It is not a trivial task to build an IoT solution.

In this talk I am going to tell about IoT Reference Architecture on Azure. We will discuss ‘cold’, ‘warm’, ‘hot’ paths that data passes through and what for, Push and Pull models to ingest data and what services are there in place.

About Aliaksandr Huzen:
I am a technical specialist with 11+ years’ wide experience in software development. During all this years I have worked on different projects building complex distributed systems on-premises and in the cloud and acted on different positions as tech lead, tech expert and hands-on solution architects helping companies to achieve their goals and engineering excellence. Currently I am working as Cloud Architect at Heroes. I am a real technology fun. I like learning and playing with new stuff and sharing and discussing my findings and conclusions with others.

-- Talk 3 --
Building IoT Edge solutions

In this talk I will focus on how IoT Edge works under the hood and how you can build your own edge modules using C# and Visual Studio code. I will do this walking you through the code and configuration of a demo IoT solution that integrates IoT Edge, IoT Hub, Azure Functions and the Azure SignalR service.

About Edwin van Wijk
Edwin has been working in IT since 1999 and is currently working as Principal Software Architect and Microsoft Community Lead at Info Support. He's a Microsoft MVP since 2016. His primary areas of expertise are: building distributed systems, systems integration, (cloud-native) software architecture and patterns, software craftsmanship, .NET (Core) development, Cloud (Azure) and devops. Edwin likes to share his knowledge by publishing videos and speaking on meetups and conferences.
