🏰🥾 Hello Hikers! Let’s lace up our boots, embrace the fresh air, and head into the stunning, rolling hills of South Limburg!
We’re taking on the gorgeous NS-Wandeling Valkenburg aan de Geul**, a fantastic** 13 km point-to-point trail stretching from Maastricht to Valkenburg**. We’ll start by walking out of Maastricht via the scenic Groene Loper, climb into the Limburg hills, pass an ancient quarry, and follow the beautiful Geul river straight into the heart of Valkenburg! 🌿✨**

📍 Start: Maastricht Train Station (meet outside the main entrance)
When: Sunday, July 5th | Hike starts 11:00 AM (please arrive 10–15 min early). We’ll wait 15 minutes for everyone (11:15 AM) and then share our live location in the WhatsApp group for anyone running late.
🥾 Distance: 13 km (with an option for fast walkers to continue 4 km further to Schin op Geul!)
After-hike plan: We’ll finish right at Valkenburg station, where we can find a cozy terrace to grab a celebratory drink and a slice of authentic Limburgse vlaai together before taking our trains home.

### 👀 What to Expect

  • The Groene Loper: A beautiful, green pedestrian lane that guides us smoothly out of historic Maastricht.
  • Marlstone Caves & Curfsgroeve: A panoramic viewpoint overlooking the massive Curfsgroeve, a former marlstone quarry turned lush nature reserve.
  • The Idyllic Geul Valley: Winding unpaved paths right alongside the rushing Geul river, passing historic watermills and fairytale countryside views.

### 🚂 Getting There

  • By Train: Take the train directly to Maastricht Station. It has excellent, direct connections from Eindhoven, Utrecht, and Amsterdam.
  • By Car: Since this is a point-to-point hike (Maastricht → Valkenburg), taking public transport is highly recommended. If you do drive, park at Maastricht station; you can easily catch a quick 11-minute train ride back from Valkenburg at the end of the day.

### 🎒 What to Bring

  • Hiking shoes or sturdy boots with great traction (Zuid-Limburg has actual hills, and forest paths can get muddy!)
  • A packed lunch and snacks
  • Plenty of water
  • Layered clothing and a light waterproof jacket (just in case!)
  • Note for dog owners: Dogs are welcome on this route but must be kept on a leash.

### ⚠️ Disclaimers

  • Everyone is responsible for their own safety.
  • The organizer is not responsible for personal injuries, transportation issues, health problems, loss, or damage.
  • Hike at your own pace; the hilly terrain and forest trails can be slippery after rainfall – wear proper footwear.
