Details

Experience one of the rarest and most breathtaking natural phenomena on Earth: a total solar eclipse - with a fun group of fellow travelers! We'll spend five days exploring the beautiful city of Zaragoza, enjoying Spanish food, and witnessing the Moon completely cover the Sun on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
This is an experimental Meetup. The trip will only go ahead if there is sufficient interest, and the itinerary below is a proposal rather than a final plan.

πŸ—“ Date
Monday, 10 August – Friday, 14 August 2026 (5 days / 4 nights)

πŸ“ Destination
Zaragoza, Spain
(Our final viewing location may change depending on weather forecasts a few days before the eclipse.)

About this event
A total solar eclipse is one of the most extraordinary experiences nature has to offer. For a few magical minutes, the Moon completely blocks the Sun, daylight turns into twilight, temperatures drop, birds fall silent, and the Sun's spectacular corona becomes visible - something that can only be seen during totality.
The 2026 eclipse will be the first total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe since 1999, making it a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
Rather than simply flying in for the eclipse, we'll turn it into a relaxed holiday, exploring one of Spain's most historic cities, enjoying great food, and hopefully sharing an unforgettable moment together.

⚠️ Important
This is a proposal, not a finalized trip.
The event will only go ahead if:
βœ… At least 4 people commit to joining by 10 July 2026 (approximately one month before departure).
Once we have enough committed participants, we'll:

  • Book flights together (or coordinate individually)
  • Choose accommodation together
  • Decide on restaurants and optional activities
  • Fine-tune the itinerary

Why Zaragoza?
After comparing several destinations in Spain, Zaragoza stands out because it offers:
β˜€οΈ Excellent historical weather for eclipse viewing
πŸš„ Easy transport connections
πŸ› Beautiful historic centre
🍷 Fantastic tapas culture
πŸš— Flexibility to relocate on eclipse day if weather forecasts favour another nearby location.
Unlike many eclipse trips, we won't lock ourselves into a single viewing location months in advance. Weather forecasts become much more accurate 2-3 days before the eclipse, allowing us to maximize our chances of clear skies.
