We are very excited to have Pierre Segonne talk about the fantastic work he and his colleagues are doing at https://electricitymap.org/. Pierre will talk for about 30 minutes after which there will be ample time for discussion. There will also be the opportunity to mingle in an online environment and chat over (virtual) drinks. We hope to see you there!

Title: Organising the world’s electricity data to drive the transition towards a decarbonised electricity system

Abstract: The world is electrifying. As fossil fuels consumption is substituted by electrical alternatives, it becomes necessary to access granular and real-time data about electricity consumption worldwide. This talk will give an introduction into how electricityMap (https://electricitymap.org/) achieves this, what challenges it faces, and what its upcoming initiatives are.

Bio: Pierre Segonne is an engineer and (data) science enthusiast working for electricityMap, where he is responsible for ensuring that the final electricityMap's data is of sufficient quality to enable the decarbonisation of electricity grids worldwide. Pierre received a double degree in applied mathematics from École CentraleSupélec and the Technical University of Denmark, with a thesis on robust uncertainty quantification using neural networks supervised by Pr. Søren Hauberg. Working for electricityMap, Pierre is able to combine his desire to mitigate climate change with non-trivial technical challenges.
