Wat we doen
Coven of Wisdom
A meetup community for sharing and learning all things technology in Amsterdam.
Born from the ashes of the Frontend Coding NL meetup group, we want to broaden our horizons. Digital projects aren't merely front-end. They're a collaborative effort between all types of technologies and experts.
With the Coven of Wisdom, we want to encourage digital talents to take a look over the proverbial fence and share insights on other parts of the tech stack. All this in a very accessible, informal way.
We are always open for speakers and topics who want to share what they're working on, what you discovered, or what perhaps could ungrind some gears. Drop us a DM if you're interested.
This community is proudly sponsored by iO.

- Keep Your UI in Motion - Carmen Ansio, Design Engineer at Lottiefiles
Ever shipped a UI that looked great but felt kinda… flat? In this 15-minute flash talk, we’ll explore how to add personality and polish to your interfaces using just CSS no JavaScript and definitely no frameworks.
We'll play with modern CSS properties that give you microinteractions, transitions, and subtle animations that actually feel nice. Not the classic hover: zoom stuff — we’re talking smart selectors, creative timing, and CSS that adapts and reacts like it’s alive.
Think of it as motion design for people who like their UIs smooth and their codebases light. You’ll leave with a pocketful of tricks, ready to give your interfaces that extra spark ✨ the kind users notice, even if they don’t know why.
Second Talk:
- You don’t know MathML. Almost nobody does - Vadim Makeev, MDN technical writer
Do you speak math? Me neither. Still, math formulas have always been around: from Wikipedia articles to JavaScript APIs and even CSS docs. It looks so alien that I never had a clue how to express it on the web. Apparently, there’s a markup language for that. HTML for content, SVG for vector graphics, and MathML for math! And it’s pretty cross-browser, too. Let’s dive into the basics and quirks of the language of the universe. Even if math is not your love language, you might learn something interesting about the web platform.
Third Talk:
- 'Cos it ain't no sin - Pim van Die, Senior Frontend Developer at iO
Let's create some cool visual effects with the cos and sin functions. Maybe some other fancy stuff as well.
Fourth Talk:
- Beyond Borders (and Outlines): Crafting Inclusive Experiences with Modern CSS - Manuel Sánchez, Web Accessibility Specialist at Zeit Online
This talk explores real-world accessibility challenges that developers commonly face. It demonstrates how modern CSS techniques—such as advanced selectors, and dynamic contrast—can offer elegant, inclusive solutions
