When your boss is an Uber algorithm: about the role of automated decision making in the platform economy.
After an introduction on the platform economy Martijn Arets will discuss why we sometimes need automated decision making by algorithms. Yingqian Zhang will dive deeper in the algorithms that are used and the fairness of them. Afterwards there will be a discussion moderated by Arjan Haring.
About the speakers
Martijn Arets is an international expert and thinker in the field of the emergence and development of the collaborative economy: sharing economy, gig economy, crowdfunding and crowdsourcing.
Martijn advices corporations, national governments and local governments like the city of Amsterdam. Martijn runs his own advisory company Forget The Box BV and is a part time researcher on platforms at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University.
Yingqian Zhang is as an Assistant Professor in the Information Systems group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Yingqian is particularly interested in data-driven optimization (or prescriptive analytics), optimization and coordination in multi-agent system, using techniques from data mining and machine learning, algorithmic design, mathematical modelling, and applied game theory.
The application domains of Yingqian’s current research include e-commerce, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, and sharing economy.
