Talk #1: Our journey out of the monolith; how Flexport plans to leverage Backstage to standardise microservice development

As Flexport is still growing rapidly and moving out of a monolith to microservices, we need to make sure we're not creating a wilderness of special snowflake services. We want to make it easy for everybody to go from zero to running a new service in production in as little time as possible. In this talk, we'll go over what we've achieved, learned, and what's still ahead of us. We'll cover CI, security, observability and balancing standardisation vs flexibility. Never heard of Flexport or Freight forwarders before? Checkout this video to learn how we're fixing the global supply chain problems.

Alex Nederlof, Engineering Manager at Flexport and former CTO of two startups. Though he's currently helping Flexport make custom declarations easy, his passion is in devops and infrastructure. He loves getting paged so much he even has his home running on a Kubernetes cluster.

Talk #2: Supply chain security - develop quickly without inviting The Nefarious

Amid pressure to develop faster and release more frequently, the software supply chain has changed significantly in the last few years. The processes and tooling that support our accelerated development introduce new opportunities for cybercrime. Few companies have the time, resources or knowledge to correctly assess their security posture. As a result, supply chain attacks have increased dramatically in the past 5+ years.
