Talks:
Using Security Metrics as an Enabler
In the dynamic world of security, there is no dearth of security metrics and data that we can measure. But, how do we as security professionals decide what metrics are meaningful and effective? In this talk, I will demystify the world of security metrics and discuss how we can leverage metrics to generate dialogue and focus on the right security problems. I will share common pitfalls and some best practices that I use in my work to bring alignment and share how we can use metrics to identify problems and enable the business.

Key Takeaways -

  • Defining success - Understand how to align metrics with business goals and what good looks like?
  • Why do we measure, what do we measure and when do we measure?
  • Common pitfalls – Learning from real world examples of some successful and unsuccessful ways metrics can be used.
  • Embed metrics in security culture

Target Audience
This talk is tailored for security professionals in all industries of all levels, from practitioners to those looking to improve their understanding of metrics and anyone looking to make informed decisions about aligning security with the business.
