ELLIS MeetUp Nijmegen - April 2024

Details
Dear All,
We are thrilled to announce the next ELLIS MeetUp Nijmegen in brain-computer interfaces (BCI) study.
These ELLIS MeetUps are designed to provide a platform for discussing the latest advancements in the AI and Machine Learning, bringing together enthusiasts not only within Nijmegen, Radboud University but also beyond to The Netherlands and EU ELLIS related organizations.
This monthly seminar will be held on the first Wednesday of each month throughout the academic year 2023/24.
This Month:
Time: 3rd April 2024, 16:00-17:00,
Location: Erasmus Building, 18th floor, Room 18.02A/18.03,
Erasmusplein 1, 6525 HT Nijmegen
Speaker: Dr. Michael Tangermann
**Title: "**Domain-knowledge regularization allows for weakly supervised decoding of event-related potentials"
Abstract:
In the field of brain-computer interfaces (BCI), brain signal recordings (EEG, ECoG, LPF etc.) are decoded into control commands. The machine learning models behind this decoding step need to cope with high feature dimensions, high noise levels, low signal levels and small sample sizes of training data sets.
In the context of evoked potentials, which are used a lot in BCI systems, I will show three examples of how expert knowledge can be formed into domain-specific regularization methods. In the most extreme case, supervised training data can be omitted completely by utilizing knowledge about the temporal structure of the events happening during the experimental protocol.
For those who can not participate in person, join the seminar via this link.
