On this circular walk we will explore some of the countryside to the east of Nijmegen.
The start point is Chalet Stollenberg, an old house just off Oude Kleefsebaan, the main road through Berg en Dal (see photo below).
From there we head north east through the forests of Heerlijkjeid Beek and the Bronnenbos, then take a “foot ferry” (see picture) over the Weertje, go through Persingen (apparently the smallest village in the Netherlands) then head over to lake Wyler on the German border.
Then we’ll ascend into the Duivelsberg woods and get a well-earned rest/refreshments at De Duivelsberg Pannenkoeken restaurant, before making our way back through the forest to the starting point.
This route is quite hilly with mostly rough paths so sturdy walking shoes are essential. There are also some narrow paths with steep drops on one side. For this reason if there has been wet weather in the days before the walk and it is muddy I may have to change the route for safety reasons (the start/end point will remain the same).
Don’t forget to bring plenty of water and maybe some snacks (our stop at the restaurant will be about 2.5 hours into the walk).
If you RSVP "Yes" to the event and your plans change, PLEASE change your RSVP to "No" to allow someone else to come.
