Documentary Premiere | A hard blow: the perpetrator within

Details
"What doesn’t kill you gives you a set of unhealthy coping mechanisms."
Daniëlla notices that the arguments with her partner can escalate. What makes her explode with the person she loves most? She raises the alarm and starts searching for gentleness within herself. But her relationship with her mother, despite the recent severance of contact, stands in the way. Her need for validation continues to gnaw at her. Daniëlla's question: How can I forgive my mother despite my resentment towards her?
The documentary provides a realistic picture of Daniëlla's search for validation from her mother. How do you relate to a parent who doesn't give you what you need? And how do you deal with the anger, grief, and deep pain hidden within? We see a reconstruction of the month-long process and the letters Oscar and Daniëlla wrote to each other, and how this supports Daniëlla in increasingly allowing compassion for her mother, but also for herself. Oscar's systemic interpretations provide us with a mirror image of how we can break through our own family patterns of perpetrator and victimization across society.
"Anger is often a form of frozen grief. This documentary is about letting go of what once was and learning to accept what will never be."
"Daniëlla's life journey is a quest for justice. For herself, for her mother, and for her children. And it is precisely this intergenerational connection that makes her story hopeful. Because even though we never received recognition from our parents, we can, despite those horrors and stubborn entanglements, still be supportive parents. This documentary aims to raise awareness among caregivers of the importance of processing suppressed and frozen anger in mothers, something that is still too heavily tabooed in society." – Wessel Sambros (director and documentary filmmaker)
