Details

A talk by Steven Pemberton

About the speaker
Steven Pemberton, a researcher affiliated with the CWI in Amsterdam, and regular annual speaker at Freelance Fridays, was the first user of the open internet in Europe in 1988. He went on to help design HTML, CSS, XHTML, and a number of other web technologies.

At university he was a tutee of the man who built the first transistorised computer, who himself was a tutee of Alan Turing, and Steven later worked in Turing's old department, writing software for the fifth in the line of computers that Turing also worked on.

Last year Steven was awarded the Lifetime Practice Award by ACM SIGCHI.
