THE MOVIE:
MOMMY I DON’T WANT TO is a gripping psychological thriller inspired by true
events, transporting audiences into the shadows of 1970s California — brought to
life on location across Greater Manchester and Lancashire, with studio scenes
filmed in Dubai. The film builds a tense, atmospheric portrait of fear, survival, and
the enduring bonds between a mother and child facing unimaginable threat.
Adapted from Chris Friedman’s acclaimed novel of the same name, the story is entirely fictional
— all characters and names are works of imagination. With meticulous period detail, the
production recreates the atmosphere of 1970s American suburbia through the rich historical
architecture of Northern England, a creative choice that allowed the filmmakers to achieve
remarkable authenticity without extensive post-production or green screen work.
The film explores themes of maternal instinct, institutional failure, and the psychological
aftermath of living under the shadow of a serial predator. It is a story that resonates far beyond
its historical setting — a timeless examination of how communities fracture under the weight of
fear, and how individuals find courage in the most impossible of circumstances.
