Anthropology and art, can we bring them together? with Kyra Lenting

The world of anthropology, and the world of science in general, has been described by some as an 'Ivory Tower‘. The same could be said for the world of art. Experimentation in anthropology and artistic fields seems to have existed largely in parallel worlds without much contact between them. When anthropologists make art, they tend to forget about the importance of esthetics, and vice versa, when artists claim to make anthropological work, they tend to struggle with the societal concepts. Can anthropology be valuable content for art? Can esthetics bring anthological knowledge to new audiences? Can art create a possibility that enriches a broader audience with anthropological understanding?

Kyra is a young artist and anthropologist, looking for answers to these questions. On June 23rd she will show us some of the ways she has approached these questions so far, and discuss with us where to go from there.
