HackJam - GraphQL with React vs. Angular

Details
Hey Hackers,
Are you already familiar with GraphQL (http://graphql.org/learn/)? In this free & fun HackJam hosted by booking.com (http://www.booking.com) you will choose your favourite Javascript weapon : React or Angular; and use graphQL with it. At the end of the evening you will have a good global understanding of graphQL and understand (& love! :-) ) the power of it.
GraphQL is a new query language, launched by Facebook, that makes your data queries blazingly fast and stable. It’s also very predictable: ask for what you need, and you'll get exactly that.
Apps using graphQL are fast and stable because they control the data they get, not the server. Among that, it enables to get many ressources in a single request, cache data, realtime fetching, …
We will give you a broken app and you will have to fix the application by implementing graphQL queries, mutations and writing a graphQL schema. You will learn front end queries, mutations as well as back end graphQL schema in nodeJS.
Our expert mentors will be happy to help you with that.
By fixing the application you will understand how graphQL works and you will be able to:
- Write basic graphQL queries
- Write advanced graphQL queries
- Write mutations
- Write a schema in nodeJS with the good tools
On top of this nice challenge, we will also be raffling one JetBrains (https://www.jetbrains.com) license.
A few requirements:
- Bring your own computer with node and git installed
- Have a good command with JavaScript
Many thanks to Booking.com (http://www.booking.com) for hosting us! We will be hacking at their great space at the Booking.com headquarter: Herengracht 597, 1017CE, Amsterdam (https://www.google.be/maps/place/Booking.com/@52.37646,4.8430115,13z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sbooking.com+amsterdam!3m4!1s0x47c609959752b349:0x7d8516d374ac50cd!8m2!3d52.365531!4d4.8985317). Please use the Booking.com Reception (there are 2 entrances to the building side by side, one is "The Bank" & the one you need is "Booking.com"). You will be directed to the right space from there.
We'll start at 6.30 PM with some yummy food and drinks. Please update your RSVP in time if you can't make it to the event, in order to avoid any waste. Thanks ahead!
We're looking forward to hacking with you!
