Over ons
Java User Group for the northern Dutch provinces with a focus on JVM languages such as Java and Kotlin. We'll be hosting events in both Friesland and Groningen.
We're looking forward to host both experienced speakers as well as aspiring new speakers, so if you have anything interesting to share in the JVM field or regarding engineering culture feel free to reach out!
Some of our sessions will be in English 🇬🇧, some in Dutch 🇳🇱. We'll make sure to mark them!

🇬🇧 Snake in 10 Lines: Learning More by Coding Less by Guus de Wit (adesso Netherlands)
Can you create a complete game with just 10 lines of code? That was the quest I set myself when recreating the classic game Snake in as few lines as possible. Let me tell you: I was not ready for the types of challenges I would face. For example, just registering button presses was not as straightforward as I had hoped.Through live coding, I will show you how I overcame these obstacles and distilled Snake to its absolute essence. What key elements make this game instantly recognizable? By only using tools from the JDK, we will end up with a minimal code base and if not award-winning, at least a playable version of Snake.
Striving for conciseness led me to a deeper understanding of the code. I will show how constraints push us to think outside the box and lead to more creative solutions. Moreover, my approach can be applied to any problem. Sometimes the best way to understand code is by seeing how little of it you actually need!
🇬🇧 Your Agents Are in Production. Who Are They, and What Are They Doing? by Maik Kingma (OpenValue AI)
AI agents are moving into production fast. They call APIs, read databases, send mail and trigger workflows. In most setups they do this with a service account, a long-lived API key or a token copied from the developer who built them. There is no clear answer to who the agent is acting for, what it is allowed to do, or what it actually did. This is an identity problem, and the IAM world has already started working on it. This talk walks through the building blocks: agent identity and workload identity, OAuth token exchange for delegation, ID-JAG (Identity Assertion Authorization Grant) for cross-domain access, the AAuth proposal for agent-specific authorization, and agent gateways as the place where policy is enforced and every call is logged.
We look at how these pieces fit together in a Java stack, where they overlap, and where the standards are still moving. Along the way we cover the questions to ask before an agent gets access to anything: which user or system it represents, how its permissions are scoped and expire, and how you trace an action back to a decision.
You leave with an overview of the concepts and specifications in use today. Some are still experimental at the time of writing; some may be finished RFCs by the time this talk is given. Either way, you will know what to look for and what to ask your vendors.
About the speakers
Guus is a Java/Kotlin developer at adesso Netherlands. With a passion for puzzles and a background in science, he strives for elegant solutions to complex problems. In his spare time, he likes to over-optimize the simple tasks of today, to hopefully live a lazy life tomorrowMaik is Founder and Director of OpenValue AI, where he helps companies across Europe adopt agentic engineering practices and make AI part of how their teams build and run software. His work ranges from setting up AI-assisted development workflows to putting agents into production, with a strong focus on doing it in a way that is secure and maintainable.
His background is in Java development and Identity & Access Management, in particular with Keycloak. He has spent years as a consultant and technical coach, working with teams on software craftsmanship, architecture and security. He speaks regularly at conferences and meetups, including JavaLand, J-Spring, Devoxx and DevBCN.
