More than a decade ago the trails on the slopes of Bukit Lagong were hardly distinguishable. Reaching the overgrown trig of Bukit Lagong required multiple attempts while chopping undergrowth.
Over the years, this has all changed. Now, many trails do resemble the trails in SACF, KDCF, Sri Bintang, etc.
In 2024 we hiked 'recreational' Bukit Lagong and passed Bukit Nolan and the foot of Bukit Lapo.
This time we venture into 'beirut' Bukit Lagong and we will start in Ulu Kuang, a trailhead where we haven't started a hike with KL Hiking yet.
The trail has the shape of a balloon with a string. The 'string' is relatively flat. Once we start the balloon in an anti-clockwise direction, we'll be greeted by a stiff uphill section of more than 2.5 km in length which will lead to summit of Bukit Lapo.
Bukit Lagong is less than a kilometre away from Bukit Lagong, the highest point of the hike.
What follows is mainly a gentle descent towards Bukit Wam and onwards to the trailhead.
With around 13 kilometres as a total distance, this is a hike which is suitable for less-experienced hikers but do keep in mind that in this section of the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve there is no possibility to take a shortcut.
The mandatory cut-off time at the car park will be at 02:00pm.
Carpooling is highly recommended as there is not much space at the trailhead to park cars.
---> We will perform a check of the mandatory items before the event starts. For your own safety, if you do not have the mandatory items in your possession, we will not allow you to hike. <---
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, [Maps.me,](http://maps.me,/) OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.
Although there will be guides, this still remains a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file in advance and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers.
For more details and procedure, read the Knowledge Base.
Also the explanation of the rating can be found in the Knowledge Base sub General - How to understand the rating system...?
It is compulsory that you respect the SOPs in place.
IMPORTANT: keep in mind that there is always a chance that we are not allowed to hike due to dangerous weather or other conditions (eg heavy rain, flood, landslide, health measures...) - we cannot be held responsible for such cancellation.
