We’re excited to invite you to a fun night of Language Exchange Speed-Friending, followed by a special movie screening at Cinecenter Amsterdam!
Come meet new people, practice different languages, and make friends in a relaxed and social setting, then stay for the 🇪🇸Spanish film “Sorda”. With outstanding performances by Miriam Garlo and Álvaro Cervantes, Sorda has already captivated critics and won multiple awards, including the Golden Biznaga at Málaga Film Festival and the Panorama Audience Award at Berlinale.

About the Movie — Sorda
A moving and intimate short film, Sorda follows the story of a young deaf woman whose life takes an unexpected turn as she prepares for motherhood. While the news of her pregnancy should bring joy, it instead stirs deep anxieties about her ability to communicate with her future child in a world that still marginalizes people with hearing impairments. Between moments of tenderness and frustration, she grapples with fears of isolation, the limits of accessibility, and the pressure of raising a child in an environment that often fails to include her. With sensitivity and authenticity, Sorda sheds light on the challenges faced by the deaf community, while ultimately celebrating resilience, identity, and the power of maternal love.
