Castle hike and castle visit (including free unique guided tour)
Please note: limited acces. Only ten spots.
On Whitt Sunday we will discover the castles of Heemskerk, a village between Alkmaar and Haarlem. We will start from and return to Heemskerk train station, with free car parking.
The village of Heemskerk and its surroundings are known for castles and country estates. Also it is a very green region located at the edge of the dunes.
The two castles we will discover are kasteel Assumburg and Chateau Maquette.
The first one is now a hostel and closed to public, but the magnificent castle garden is open to visitors.
The garden is developed in modern times, but at the same spot as 300 years ago and in baroque and classical French design. It is an isle of peace, open space and timelessness. That makes it unique and attracting.
We will have the time to take photos and enjoy the scenery. Please bring your own drink and snack so we can have a lunch stop here.
After this stop we will continue our tour to Chateau Maquette. This is a castle that is now a location for weddings and business events and closed to other public.
Only today it will open its doors for a very unique guided tour through the various halls. A reservation is already made for this free tour.
Please note that this tour will be in Dutch.
After all the special impressions gathered, we will get the chance to unwind in style with coffee and cake at the very terrace of the castle.
Finally we will hike back to Heemskerk station.
The total hike will be around 12 km.
The guided tour is at 15.00 hrs and will take about one hour.
