Chaos engineering - The fine art of breaking stuff in production on purpose

Details
Breaking your production environment on purpose does not sound like a good plan. However this is what you do with chaos engineering.

To avoid being called out of bed because the high available system you run wasn’t that high available as everyone thought. You break it on purpose to see how the system is able to recover without impacting end users, this is called chaos engineering.

The idea of Chaos Engineering is that teams are in control of their production environment. Being in control allows you to do experiments in production like killing servers, increase network latency or databases to see how your system is able to recover from it without impacting end users.

Merapar believes that having a fast CI/CD pipeline is required when designing and developing new Cloud workloads. This enables customers to release fast and quickly gather end-user feedback. Next to this aspect, having a reliable infrastructure is important to provide the right level of customer experience. This can be tested (even in production) with a concept called Chaos engineer. We would like to invite you for this meetup and learn about the concepts and processes around Chaos Engineering.

For this session, Merapar invited Geert van der Cruijsen. He will cover the basics of chaos engineering, practices of creating an architecture and systems that allows for experimenting in production and how you can start doing this in your own environments.
