Modeldriven DWH Automation with PowerDesigner @ de Volksbank

Details

Within our Data Warehouse project at De Volksbank we are pushing the limits of PowerDesigner, the datamodeling tool from SAP which is used by many large organizations to model their DWH.

Instead of directly modeling physical data models (e.g. datavault) we start by creating logical datamodels for each layer: source, business (per subject area) and delivery (publication).

We have customized PowerDesigner so physical mappings including SQL statements can be generated based on logical mappings between the datamodels.

Mappings can also be generated by parsing SQL statements so more complex transformations can be maintained in the data models to guarantee full data lineage from source to target.

Because PowerDesigner is at the heart of the current solution we would like to get in touch with parties who are interested in discussing best practices and lessons learned in using PD datamodels as a source for DWH automation.

At Volksbank we currently have some awesome PD automation experts available in our team who love to share their insights with fellow modeling and automation enthusiasts!

During this meetup we would like to demonstrate our current solution!
