It's time for our next get together! Hosted by the lovely folks of Inspire, we will enjoy an in-depth talk about functional programming by one of our community members! In addition, we might have room for a short 15 minute lightning talk if someone would like to try speaking. Contact us (utrechtjs at gmail dot com) if you're interested.

Please, sign up only if you can really make it. RSVP updates in the last few days really hurt those on the wait list (and the host/speaker/organizers) because folks can't always make it if they get such short notice.

## Schedule

18:30 - 19:00 Welcome, drinks, some food
19:00 - 19:40 Main Presentation by Andrea Giugliano
19:45 - 20:10 Second Presentation by Steven Thonus
20:10 - 21:00 Socialize!

## Functional abstractions in JavaScript: checking laws with JSverify (by Andrea Giugliano)

JavaScript is also a functional language. In this talk we will explore
interactively some useful functional programming abstractions, we will
understand their laws and validate with property based tests that these
laws hold on a commonly used data structure.

About the speaker:

"I am an enthusiast learner. I play a lot with functional programming as
I dived in it during my Ph.D. and I chose to keep going with it at my
current job in Amsterdam. As a full stack developer I work a lot with
front end as well, and JavaScript fits well with my functional interest.
I look forward to sharing what I have learned so far with you."

## ClojureScript Web App on Node.js and the Browser (by Steven Thonus)

In previous projects I worked with server side rendering. For a lot of customer facing websites sharing content and having great search engine results is important. With highly dynamic content and a wide audience, this can be quit challenging to get right. Server side rendering can help out here but I could not find a nice and complete solution using ClojureScript. Tonight I will talk about a small project setup which can do all this for you. I will demonstrate the setup and the developer experience in a ClojureScript application.

About the speaker:

Steven is a developer at Infi Utrecht.

## Location: Inspire

Our lovely host this month (Inspire) is conveniently located in Utrecht's city center. We recommend coming by bike or public transport. You can find Inspire at Voetiusstraat 2: https://goo.gl/maps/w9uSBhLj8452
