Quick recap for those who don't know OpenBao yet: it's an open source fork of Vault, fully API-compatible. That means a real drop-in replacement — your `vault` calls, auth methods, secret engines, policies, and existing tooling (Terraform/OpenTofu provider, agent, CSI, Kubernetes auth) keep working the way you're used to. No client-count licensing, no black boxes, and you keep everything under your own control. OpenBao sits under the Linux Foundation and is listed in the European Commission's Open Source catalogue as a building block for digital sovereignty.
