The Invisible Self: Philosophy Salon

What is the place of the self in the universe? Are human beings just tiny sparks of consciousness, experiencing the universe through their subjective lens? And does the universe care about these fragile sparks? Can the physical world embrace the mind? According to many spiritual traditions, this is a wrong way of viewing things. The mind and the universe aren't really divided. There is no sharp distinction between the small self and the big world. In this Philosophy Salon, we will explore the idea that the self is the (full, giant, awesome) universe. To start, does this view even make sense? What does it imply for our view of ourselves as unique individuals? And does it mean that consciousness is everywhere - in rocks, trees, and the stars?
