The Invisible Self: Philosophy Salon

How does the self relate to the universe? Is the human being just a tiny spark of consciousness, viewing the universe through its subjective prism? And does the universe care about these fragile sparks? Can inanimate matter welcome or understand the mind?

According to many spiritual traditions, this is a wrong way of framing things. The mind and the universe aren't fundamentally divided. There is no sharp distinction between the small self and the big world. In this Philosophy Salon, we will pursue the idea that the self is the (full, giant, awesome) universe. Can this view even make sense? What does it imply for our understanding of ourselves as individuals? Is the universal mind a free pass into collective consciousness - an easy way for many to become one?
