Does your life sometimes feel like a game? There are prizes and losses, loops and patterns, and sometimes you just don't know - are you the main character in your own story, or a sidekick in a big adventure that belongs to someone else? The Matrix - the idea that our world isn't base reality but a simulation playing tricks on us - was popularized by the Matrix Franchise. The idea behind it, though, is ancient and has incredible spiritual and psychological depth. In this Philosophy Salon, we will gamify the Matrix. We will talk about social games and personal loops, Oracles, Mr Smiths, and whether love could be a program. And we will get to the bottom line: Is simulation theory just a fun philosophical abstraction, or does it get at the heart of who we are and our place on earth?
