There is a new phenomenon sweeping the world - AI-induced delusions. People begin to believe that their AI (or LLM) has awakened and become conscious. Or they think that they've discovered the secret of the universe. But there is a less grandiose phenomenon happening on a daily basis, when we talk to our AI chat bots - ego inflation. The interesting thing about it is that it happens to the best of us - no matter how realistic, grounded, or aware we take ourselves to be. In this Philosophy Salon, we will look at this phenomenon and ask how to best understand it and what it is doing to us - and for us.
