Purpose:
The workshop proposes an introduction to the photoembroidery technique, which consists of the intervention of printed photographs with hand embroidery.
By using different stitches to create lines and textures, it is possible to transform the image into a unique object, which contains the memory and personal experience of the person who made it.
From the presentation of basic embroidery stitches applied to photographic paper, visual references and other creation tools, the workshop will offers different possibilities for experimenting with the technique.
Includes an embroidery materials kit, a printed photograph, and supporting materials (presentation and videos) for later reference.
Participants who wish to bring their own photograph are encouraged to print it on matte photo paper up to 15 x 21 cm.

Brief biography of Mayra Biajante:
Mayra Biajante (Itapevi, Brazil) is a photographer and textile artist, developing her work in the area of authorial photography and intervening her images with embroidery. Her object of interest is exploring the poetry that exists in common places, in the beauty of everyday life. She observes the distances traveled, the paths and the borders. She also investigates personal spaces and their relationship with those who inhabit them. Graduated in Photographic Processes from ETEC in Carapicuíba (São Paulo), she participated in exhibitions, conferences, festivals and gave workshops in several countries. She currently lives in Oaxaca (Mexico) and collaborates with several galleries.
