Open Source Software from a maintainer’s perspective

Details

Hi all! It's been a while ... but we're back! :) After the unfortunate situation losing all our sponsors around the summer holiday due to various reasons (see our previous message) we have found a new sponsor in Cell[0]. This custom software & web applications company will host us in March. In the meantime we're talking to other companies to find at least a second partner. For now we are super happy to have a location. And with a location we were able to arrange a speaker.

This time it's Danny van der Sluijs who will speak at Dutch PHP Conference the week after our meetup. What an honor to host him! His lecture is programming language agnostic and therefore interesting for all kind of developers but even scrum masters, DevOps engineers, etc.

We are also honored to mention that Dutch PHP Conference is sponsoring us with discount coupons and 1 giveaway! Like last year, we are happy to be able to give our members a 10% discount. For non-members there is a 5% discount code.

  • 5% public code: 040php25
  • 10% member code: send us a message on Meetup!

Use your applicable code on the DPC website at the 'GET YOUR TICKET' button. A new site opens. Enter it at the end of the order form.
Also we have 1 ticket for the main conference day (Friday 21st March) to raffle. Only for attendees at the meetup, so be there!

Last but not least we'll have an announcement to make at our upcoming meetup. We will reveal something nice about our meetup group. With that comes a small (very small!) goodie. You might want to attend...

The lecture
This talk goes into the details of being an open source maintainer and the things that go along with it. It goes into the problems they run into, which tools does GitHub and others offer and how can maintainers do their part in the relation with users and contributors.

Things people could learn for this talk are:

  • How to create a self explaining repository/repositories which allows others to easily contribute.
  • How to setup your GitHub repository to guide users when creating issues reports or pull requests.
  • How to setup additional items such as sponsoring and documentation.

About the location
The meetup is held at Cell[0]. Cell[0] provides us an great location, food (pizza, vegan as well) and drinks. The office of Cell[0] is located inside the Klokgebouw building at Strijp-S. The entrance is in the middle of the building along Philitelaan, which is opposite the Ketelhuis.
If the door is locked, please ring the bell at number 112. Once inside, follow the signs to the second floor.

For parking, paid options are available along the road at Strijp-S and in the "Om de Hoek" parking garage. Additionally, you can find some free parking spots at the NS train station Strijp-S, which is a 5-minute walk away. There is also plenty of free parking along Achtseweg Zuid or at the other side of the train tracks, all about a 10-minute walk.

Everybody is encouraged to attend about an hour prior to the lecture, so we can have a chat while enjoying our food.
