La sfida è stata offerta agli studenti del corso di Machine Learning del Prof. Fabio Stella all'interno della Laurea Magistrale in Data Science del Dipartimento di Informatica, Sistemistica e Comunicazione dell'Università di Milano-Bicocca. Il tema della competizione è “Previsione dell'approvazione del prestito e algoritmi di machine learning”. Gli studenti hanno anche progettato dashboard interattive per visualizzare i risultati dell'analisi predittiva e le relazioni tra l'idoneità all'approvazione del prestito nei richiedenti. This event aims to celebrate the three winning teams of the “Machine Learning challenge III” and to share their projects with the KNIME community. The challenge was offered to students of the Machine Learning course of Prof. Fabio Stella within the Master's Degree in Data Science of the Department of Computer Science, Systems and Communication of the University of Milano-Bicocca. The theme of the competition is “Prediction of loan approval and machine learning algorithms”. Students also designed interactive dashboards to visualize the results of predictive analytics and the relationships between eligibility for loan approval in applicants. Discover in this event how KNIME and its low-code approach enable the creation of advanced analytical solutions to problems of great topicality and public interest.

KNIME Data Connect will be making its next stop in Zurich on May 8th, 2025, featuring presentations on AI and AI agents.

**Talk 1 - AI in Business – Lessons from Real-World Use Cases by Sandro Saitta**

Artificial Intelligence is far more than ChatGPT or Generative AI. This talk begins with a brief overview of AI, followed by a review of real-world use cases across key industries, including telecommunications, chemicals, food, manufacturing, and banking. We explore how AI is being applied in these sectors and examine the lessons learned through successes and failures. The session concludes with a brief look at how KNIME is integrated into executive education to support AI literacy and adoption.

**Talk 2 - Building AI Agents with KNIME: A practical walkthrough by Roberto Cadili**

GenAI understands and responds to natural language, which is why early use cases often centered around chatbots. However, when an LLM is equipped with tools and the ability to orchestrate them intelligently, it evolves beyond a simple chatbot—it becomes an agentic system. These AI agents can interact with data, take action, pursue goals, and adapt to dynamic environments with varying levels of autonomy. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to build an AI agent for a company's "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) project using KNIME. We'll walk through how to create and integrate both intelligent and traditional tools (e.g., customer support tickets, company insight retriever) that the agent can leverage. We'll also see how to design the agent to orchestrate these tools effectively and deliver smart, contextual answers to user queries. Best of all, we’ll do it all using KNIME’s visual workflows, ensuring transparency, self-documentability and without coding.

***Sandro Saitta*** is passionate about helping companies become more data-driven. He has worked across various industries to promote data usage and is currently a Data & AI advisor at viadata, a company specializing in executive advising and corporate training. He gained experience with a wide range of companies, including Swisscom (as a consultant), SICPA Security Solutions, Expedia, Nestlé Nespresso and the Swiss Data Science Center. Sandro also lectures at Business School Lausanne (BSL) and in the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Data Science & Management at HEC Lausanne. Additionally, he is a member of the executive committee of CDOIQ Europe and co-founded the Swiss Association for Analytics. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

***Roberto Cadili*** is a data scientist on the Evangelism team at KNIME. As editor for Low Code for Data Science, he is helping the KNIME community shape successful data science stories, tutorials, and best practices that are worth sharing.

The introduction of AI has significantly lowered the barrier for the access to data science. Let's lower the other barrier then, the coding barrier! KNIME is not new to lowering the coding barrier. Ever since its first version KNIME Analytics Platform has adopted visual programming to provide a more comfortable low code based experience for the data professionals. After a short introduction to KNIME Analytics Platform, I will show how to build an AI based workflow and how to assemble an agentic system of tools and agents. All without coding.

L’Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi ospita un incontro su KNIME, Intelligenza Artificiale e analisi dei dati, con un focus sulle applicazioni nell’industria 4.0 e nell’ottimizzazione dei processi aziendali.

L'evento offrirà l’opportunità di approfondire il ruolo dell’IA nei workflow di KNIME, analizzando metodologie innovative per la gestione dei dati.

Arricchire i workflow di dati con l'Intelligenza Artificiale

**Talk 1 :** Valutazione dell'efficacia di un algoritmo diagnostico su KNIME: interpretazione automatizzata dell'immunotipizzazione nella elettroforesi capillare

Nell'intervento verrà descritto lo sviluppo e la valutazione di un algoritmo diagnostico basato sulla piattaforma KNIME Analytics Platform per l'interpretazione automatica dell'immunotipizzazione mediante elettroforesi capillare, applicato specificamente alle disproteinemie plasmacellulari. Il lavoro si concentra sull'uso di un algoritmo di riconoscimento immagini basato su reti neurali convoluzionali (CNN) per analizzare i proteinogrammi, con l'obiettivo di assistere nelle procedure diagnostiche. Vengono presentati i risultati dell'addestramento del modello con diverse quantità di immagini di pazienti e l'applicazione della tecnica SMOTE per dimostrare l'applicabilità del metodo, avendo avuto modo di testarlo con un set di immagini non sufficiente, culminando in una proposta per l'integrazione di tale sistema nel flusso di lavoro diagnostico.

**Talk 2** : Una preview della nuova KNIME image processing extension made in UniBZ

Il team del gruppo di Machine Learning del prof. Di Fatta all’Università di Bolzano-Bozen sta lavorando a una nuova KNIME extension per elaborazione avanzata di immagini. A fianco di nodi classici di image processing, come filtri e noise remval, abbiamo anche inserito un nodo basato su modelli di AI per segmentazione di immagini ("YOLO" e "Segment Anything").
Durante questo data Connect faremo una prima demo della extension in anteprima. Tenete conto che è ancora un work in progress con ancora pochi nodi, ma vorremmo mostrare l'avanzamento fatto e ricevere feedback dagli utenti di KNIME.

**[Francesco Alaimo](https://www.linkedin.com/in/falaimo/)** laureato in Ingegneria Informatica, KNIME Certified Trainer e membro della community di KNIME, lavora per TIM SpA ed è Team Leader di un gruppo di che cura l'assurance e il delivery della Core Network Mobile. Nella lunga carriera ha svolto per diversi anni attività di Supporto Specialistico per le Reti mobili, poi progettista di rete, ma sempre a contatto con i dati degli impianti di telecomunicazione (configurazioni /allarmi/ misure). Da quando ha scoperto KNIME, ha abbracciato la filosofia low code e lo utilizza in TIM, per creare reportistiche automatiche sugli allarmi ripetitivi della rete e per il monitoraggio dei dati di Workflow management.

**[Giuseppe Di Fatta](https://www.unibz.it/it/faculties/engineering/academic-staff/person/46582-giuseppe-di-fatta "https://www.unibz.it/it/faculties/engineering/academic-staff/person/46582-giuseppe-di-fatta")** è professore ordinario presso la [Facoltà di Ingegneria della Libera Università di Bolzano-Bozen](https://www.unibz.it/it/faculties/engineering/ "https://www.unibz.it/it/faculties/engineering/") dal 2022. La sua attività didattica e di ricerca si concentra su machine learning, data science e calcolo distribuito, con applicazioni multidisciplinari in ambito scientifico e industriale.​
In precedenza, ha ricoperto il ruolo di professore e direttore del Dipartimento di Informatica presso la University of Reading (UK) dal 2016 al 2021. Ha contribuito allo sviluppo della prima versione della piattaforma KNIME durante la sua permanenza all'Università di Costanza (Germania) dal 2004 al 2006. Ha inoltre lavorato presso l'Istituto ICAR del CNR (Italia) e come research fellow all'International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) di Berkeley, California.​
