This meetup will be all about the challenges and opportunities when using Large Language Models (LLMs) in production environments. First Schiphol Group will demonstrate how they use LLMs for external usage to enhance customer care support. Afterwards Albert Heijn will show the power of LLMs by showcasing their internal LLM "Samurai", which is used for efficient information retrieval. Excited?! Join us on the 2nd of May 2024!

**TALKS**

**\[Talk 1\]: “How Generative AI will bring Schiphol's customer care to new heights”** by Sebastiaan de Vries & Justin van Dongen
In this talk, Sebastiaan de Vries, Senior Data Scientist and Justin van Dongen, Data Engineer at Schiphol Group will elaborate on how Schiphol is enhancing customer care support through the implementation of domain knowledgeable Large Language Models (LLMs) with adequate guardrails via their online channels.
Justin will be presenting the centralised platform, the base of their future LLM applications that currently is realised and the vision they have for this foundation. Sebastiaan will delve into challenges faced in developing a customer facing model, the opportunities presented by leveraging LLMs, and the importance of implementing guardrails to ensure responsible AI usage. Furthermore, he will discuss the technical implementation, validation methods, and measurable impact of integrating LLMs in our day-to-day operations, along with desirable next steps of our newest digital agent.

**\[Talk 2\]: “Unleashing Samurai: How Albert Heijn is Making Content Retrieval Hassle\-free for Employees"** by Samuel Oyediran & Christiaan Rademan
Albert Heijn is transforming how employees search for information through the Samurai (SAM-your-AI) RAG application. This application was conceived during an AH Technology Hackathon and developed further by AH Gen AI Labs. Still in its pilot phase, Samurai has helped Dutch and non-Dutch-speaking colleagues across Albert Heijn efficiently access internal documentation using semantic search.

In the upcoming presentation, Samuel Oyediran, ML Engineer (Commerce) and Christiaan Rademan, ML Engineer (Digital), will provide insightful details on how Samurai was built.

Get off the bus at the Schipholgebouw [Schiphol Head Office building] stop (fourth stop). Journey time: 10 minutes.

**Walking**
From the railway station/Schiphol Plaza: walk along Schiphol Boulevard towards the Hilton Hotel and past The Base A,B,C office building. Walking time: 10 minutes.

Fabric is a major new development from Microsoft where Python is treated as a first class citizen. This talk will provide an overview of Microsoft Fabric through the lens of a Python Data developer, with demos showing how Python can be used to build cloud native, enterprise grade data pipelines on the platform. It will also touch on concepts such as lakehouse, data mesh, medallion architecture and star schemas - all fundamental building blocks of a modern cloud native data architecture.

**Desert Island Docker: Python Edition** - *[Andrew Collier](https://twitter.com/datawookie)*
What 3 Docker images would you choose if you were shipwrecked on a desert island? Choosing the right images will determine whether you are rescued or end up in a cannibals' cooking pot (Python images will make you particularly unpalatable).

Docker is an essential tool for survival as a Python developer, regardless of whether you are stranded or not. In this talk I'll describe three Python Docker images that I consider essential for survival on a desert island. I'll demonstrate how to set up and build a custom image. And finally I'll demonstrate how using a Docker image can simplify CI/CD and deployment.

**Kickstart Coding at Scale: How Project Template Automation Unlocks Developer Productivity** **– Adrian Freund, Pavel Zwerschke, Bela Stoyan (QuantCo)**

As your company grows, often so does your software landscape. Setting up each repository from scratch quickly leads to a fragmented ocean of project and ci setups that basically solve the same problems. For this, we came up with a standardized customizable internal project template that we use for all new projects. To operate this effectively at scale, we also came up with a solution to automatically migrate existing projects to newer versions of the template. This lets our developers focus on what they do best, writing code, and not getting stuck on boilerplate while still giving them the option to later deviate from the standard setup if needed.
**Adrian Freund** is a working student in developer tools and is currently studying computer science at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. One of his most popular OSS contributions is the support for the *match* statement in mypy.
**Pavel Zwerschke** is a Data Engineer focused on building platforms for Data Science development. As part of his work, he is working on packaging topics, especially the adoption of pixi in the wider scientific Python community.
**Bela Stoyan** is technical staff working on the intersection of Data Science and MLOps. He enables Data Scientist to write data pipelines and helps them to bring them to production systems.

**Dask DataFrame is fast now - Florian Jetter (Coiled)**

Dask is a library for distributed computing with Python that integrates tightly with pandas. Historically, Dask was the easiest choice to use (it's just pandas) but struggled to achieve robust performance (there were many ways to accidentally perform poorly). The re-implementation of the DataFrame API addresses all of the pain points that users ran into. We will look into how Dask is a lot faster now, how it performs on benchmarks that is struggled with in the past and how it compares to other tools like Spark, DuckDB and Polars.
**Florian Jetter** is leading the Dask Engineering team at Coiled Computing. He is a long term dask core maintainer and is an expert in distributed cloud computing and data storage
