Njoki Njuki, Data Analyst at University of Oxford, will be bringing us a talk on "R for Play: When Data Meets Creativity". We often think of R as a serious tool for data wrangling and analysis, but it can also be a playground for creativity. In this talk, I’ll share some of my own pet projects where R has sneaked into everyday life: from using tidytuesday to learn new tricks, to generating a personalised menu while moving to a new city, to designing pride flags for my home, even to building quick utilities I can run on my phone.

Join the Karachi R User Group for an engaging session on **“Building Predictive Models using R”** presented by **Dr. Zarmeen Nasim** (Assistant Professor, Aga Khan University).

This talk will guide you through the end-to-end process of predictive modelling — starting with data preparation, handling missing values, and feature engineering, all the way to building, evaluating, and interpreting machine learning models in R.

You will get hands-on exposure to popular modelling packages such as **tidymodels** and **caret**, while understanding how predictive modelling differs from descriptive and inferential techniques. Real-world examples will be shared from Dr. Zarmeen’s work in health data science, natural language processing, and social network analysis.

The R ecosystem has rapidly expanded with innovative packages that bring modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) directly into R workflows. These tools enable R users to interact seamlessly with AI models, integrate contextual insights from their R sessions, and even embed intelligent assistants within their development environments.

For instance, **ellmer** provides a unified interface to interact with LLMs such as OpenAI’s GPT and Anthropic’s Claude, supporting streaming, asynchronous operations, tool invocation, and structured outputs. Similarly, **gander** (developed by Simon Couch at Posit) introduces a Copilot-like assistant into RStudio or Positron that automatically understands your code and environment to offer relevant AI support.

Participants will gain hands-on understanding and practical skills for integrating AI tools into R. Key learning points include:

* **LLM Integration in R:** Learn how to call and control large language models using **ellmer**, and how to supply them with session-aware context via tools like **btw** and **mcptools**.
