Eindhoven Ballroom Functions: Pride Edition

Get ready for this special edition of Eindhoven Ballroom Functions! Join this fierce and fabulous night where we will celebrate Pride month in a ballroom way. This edition of EBF will feature special guest judges, who will not only serve but also share their knowledge!

BALLROOM
Ballroom is a mainly BIPOC/Latinx gay, trans, queer community that originated in New York. People "walk" (compete) for trophies, prizes, and glory in various categories at events known as balls. Ballroom has gotten more mainstream exposure with tv shows like Pose or Legendary and from the documentary Paris is Burning.

Eindhoven Ballroom Functions (EBF) is a practice ball organised by Lenka Bachorikova, Shahin Damka, and Mert Teddy. This is a space where the ballroom community comes together to practice but also to celebrate queerness, diversity and freedom.

The dance style Voguing comes from the ballroom culture, which was created by queer people of colour in New York in the 70s/80s. It was inspired by the models in the magazine Vogue, where also the name comes from.

FUNCTION CATEGORIES
The Pride edition will feature the following categories:

• Beginners Performance - A category for first-time or novice participants to showcase their skills and potential.
• Realness - A battle where participants convincingly embody a specific gender or societal role.
• Face - All about flawless skin, bone structure, confidence, and the ability to captivate using just your face.
• Runway - A test of strut, precision, and attitude as contestants serve high-fashion model realness down the catwalk.
• Fag Out vs. Dyke Out - A playful battle celebrating queerness, where femmes and mascs compete in self-expression.
• New Way - Stylised voguing showcasing flexibility, sharp lines, precision, and geometric movements.
• Old Way - Classic voguing based on symmetry, sharp angles, and poses.
• Body - A celebration of physical form, where contestants flaunt sensuality, curves, muscles, or proportions.
• Sex Siren - Pure seduction and allure, where participants exude sexual confidence and fantasy through movement and presence.
• Hands vs. Arms - A battle of upper-body control, isolations, and expression, focusing on fluidity (hands) versus power (arms).
• Best Look Of The Night - A fashion-forward category where participants show off their most stunning, head-turning ensemble.
• OTA (Open to All) Performance - A category where anyone, regardless of gender or experience, can vogue down and show their unique style.
• Shake That Ass - High-energy, crowd-hyping category centered around rhythm, bounce, and the art of twerking or booty shaking.

SAFE SPACE
Everyone is welcome. Do please note this event is designed as a extra safe space for queer and trans people of colour. Securing everyone’s safety is paramount. No form of discrimination or hate will be tolerated. When you enter this space you must know to whom it belongs.
