This TechTalk on 11 March 2020 will have an international character. The talks will be in English.

Programme

18.00 - 19.00 uur: Walk in.
If you haven't eaten yet, we will provide you with a nice meal!

19.00 - 19.45 uur: Talk 1
Analyzing network traffic using fingerprints - Riccardo Bortolameotti, Lead Data Scientist at Bitdefender

Today network traffic is very heterogenous and chaotic. It is becoming increasingly challenging to understand what exactly is happening within a network. We have more devices in our network than ever (e.g., Internet of Things), and the extensive use of encrypted communication limits our visibility of the network. In this talk we explore different network-based fingerprinting techniques that can help improving the visibility of the network for management and security purposes. We discuss fingerprinting methods can be used to identify applications or devices that are commonly used in practice, or have been proposed in research.

About Riccardo:
Riccardo works as a Lead Data Scientist at Bitdefender, a leading security vendor. Together with his team, Riccardo works on the development of network security analytics. Previously, he worked at Lastline Inc. and SecurityMatters. He recently obtained his PhD from the University of Twente where he worked on the topic of data exfiltration detection.

19.45 - 20.30 uur: Talk 2
Experimenting with future internet architectures - Caspar Schutijser & Joeri de Ruiter, research engineers at SIDN Labs

The Internet has become a vital piece of infrastructure in our society. However, the Internet was not designed with its current use in mind. As a result the Internet suffers from a number of limitations, for example in the area of security and mobility. To address this, AMS-IX, NLnet Labs, SIDN Labs, SURFnet, TU Delft, the University of Amsterdam and the University of Twente work together in the joint research programme called 2STiC (pronounced "to stick"), which is short for Security, Stability and Transparency in inter-network Communication. In this programme, the goal is to develop and evaluate mechanisms for increasing the security, stability and transparency of internet communications, for instance by experimenting with and contributing to emerging internet architectures. In this presentation, we will give a sneak peek into our research on new internet architectures.

About Caspar
Caspar works as a Research Engineer at SIDN Labs, the research team of the operator of the .NL top-level domain. He works on researching future internet architectures. Additionally, he also works on improving IoT security. He studied Computer and Internet Science and Technology at the University of Twente.

About Joeri
In my research, I focus on new internet architectures. That involves studying how emerging architectures work in practice, and contributing to their development. I also take a keen interest in the security of the existing Internet.

Attend / unsubscribe
If you sign up for this event, we are counting on you. There are limited spots available. We want to give as much people as possible the opportunity to attend. That's why we work with a no-show principle: If you sign up for the event and sign out on the day before the event or last minute you will get a yellow card. Two yellow cards will result in a red card. This means you can't attend a TechTalk event temporarily.
